WHAT IS POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMEN
Ever increasing traffic intensities, higher axle loads, increased tire pressures and unfavourable wheel configurations result in increasing deterioration of asphalt pavements. Deterioration that manifests in form of ravelling, rutting, surface cracking, fatigue and reflective cracking will result in dangerous traffic conditions, shorter lifetime and higher maintenance frequencies. By improving the asphalt mixture properties, the lifetime of the pavement will be extended.
Modified bitumen in general has been successfully used for more than 40 years with an aim to extend the use of bituminous mixes beyond the limitations imposed by the temperature susceptibility of bitumen.
Several bitumen modifiers have been developed, with most of them offering an improvement to a certain degree in the pavement performance. Some modifiers increase the asphalt stiffness, thus the pavement’s load-bearing capacity, but these binders usually have reduced fatigue resistance. SBS modifiers improve the fatigue properties to some extent better than other modifiers, but at the cost of stiffness. Consequently, most modified binders achieve the desired improvement, but usually at the cost of other properties. The best results can be obtained by incorporating specific polymers to the bitumen.
PCE POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMEN
We, PCE, offer a special type of PMB which is modified with Radial type Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS), unique additives and production technology, and has the following properties:
BENEFITS
- Temperature susceptibility (-22 to +78)
- High resistance to deformation and cracking
- High elastic recovery
- High resistance to fatigue and aging
- Increased adhesion of binder to aggregates
- Homogenous dispersion of polymer into bitumen
- High storage stability (no segregation with long time storage or reheating)
- Environmental responsibility
WE OFFER
A complete range of PMBs for the production of asphalt for any type of project including airport runways, airport taxiways, highways, and container yards.Your choice will be determined by the conditions that apply to your project. The specific properties of these PMBs give the asphalt mixture excellent resistance to fatigue, reflective cracking and permanent deformation, which results in extended durability of the pavement.
PCE PMB STRENGTHENS THE ASPHALT MIX TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT:
-The service life nearly doubles, even with heavy use; -The fatigue life is up to 6 times better than standard asphalt -The crack propagation rate is a factor 2 lower than in standard asphalt -The permanent deformation is approximately one tenth of standard asphalt.-In pavement design, under identical considerations,-The layer thickness amounts 1/2 to 2/3 of the thickness of standard asphalt;-The traffic safety is increased. The above advantages make the asphalt projects made with these PMBs very cost effective.
FUEL RESISTANT PMB
Among the range of PMBs that we offer, there is a unique product that is resistant to fuel. This fuel-resistant type of PMB is highly suitable for asphalt pavements in areas with a high risk of oil spillages, such as bus lanes and traffic light zones, storage tank areas, gas station areas, and airport pavements.
CLEAR BINDER
Colored asphalt is an excellent choice for pavements that need that extra bit of attention or attractiveness. But it is almost impossible to get the desired colors other than red with standard bitumen. To overcome this problem, we offer a clear binder which is a synthetic product for asphalt applications.
The Clear Binder is available in two grades: standard grade (penetration grade), and polymer-modified grade for heavy-duty application.
Using the Clear Binder, colored asphalt can be produced in bright, light colors such as yellow, blue, and green. The colored asphalt can be used in bicycle and footpaths, town squares, speed bumps, parking lots, and bus lanes.
